Qi Chen

My name is Qi and I am the owner of Ashton Sports Therapy. I am a Level 5 Sports Therapist and Level 3 Personal Trainer, with additional qualifications in kettlebell, circuits training, and suspension movement. I am also qualified in medical acupuncture, traditional Chinese fire cupping, lymphatic drainage, and first responder — and, as a fun fact, I hold a criminal law degree from university.

My path into sports therapy grew out of my own experience as a runner, weightlifter, and CrossFit athlete. Training brought its own injuries, and watching friends and training partners go through the same sparked a genuine interest in understanding what goes wrong and how to fix it properly. I started with personal training, then pursued sports therapy — and as my experience grew, I added qualifications in complementary treatment areas to offer clients a more complete approach to recovery.

Although the clinic is categorised as an injury clinic, I would describe it as something broader: a place for everyday people and their functional movement. Injuries do not only come from sport — they come from day-to-day repetitive movement, poor posture, an awkward sleeping position, or simply reaching up to the kitchen cupboard for a mug.

With every new client I carry out a thorough injury assessment, posture correction, and joint assessment. Even when two clients present with the same pain, no two people are alike — which means a single treatment or rehabilitation plan will never suit everyone.

My treatment techniques draw on a combination of approaches:

  • Joint mobilisation
  • Soft tissue mobilisation and release
  • Trigger point release
  • Myofascial release
  • Muscle energy technique
  • Medical acupuncture
  • Traditional Chinese fire cupping

These techniques help to relieve pain and to prevent injury from recurring.

What I find most rewarding is straightforward: seeing a client get back to doing what they enjoy — whether that is returning to sport, getting through a working day without pain, or simply having a restful night’s sleep again.

Rehabilitation is just as important as hands-on treatment. I provide personalised rehabilitation exercise plans and deliver group rehabilitation sessions. Lasting improvement requires the body to perform the right movements consistently — a single treatment session is the beginning, not the end.

Qualifications include:

  • Level 5 Sports Therapy
  • Level 3 Personal Trainer
  • Kettlebell, Circuits Training and Suspension Movement
  • Medical Acupuncture
  • Level 2 Advanced Chinese Fire Cupping
  • Lymphatic Drainage
  • First Responder

Over five years of practice and more than 100 clients, every case has been a reminder that no two injuries — or people — are the same.
